Is a Career in Real Estate for You?

A career in real estate can be very exciting, offering great personal satisfaction and financial rewards. But it is also a highly competitive business requiring a strong ambition to succeed. Not everyone is suited to a real estate career, and even those possessing all the typical skills may not be successful. That’s why it is important to know the facts up front. The Harrisburg REALTORS Institute can help!  You must be 18 years old, complete two 30 hour courses of real estate instruction, request your criminal record check by the state police, and pass the Pennsylvania Real Estate Commission's real estate salesperson's exam.

Pre-Licensing Courses

In order for an individual to sit for the Pennsylvania State Real Estate
Commission's real estate salesperson's exam, the individual must take and pass
two courses. Real Estate Fundamentals and Real Estate Practice are the two
required courses. Each course is 30 hours in length. 80% attendance and a
passing grade of 70% or above are required for each course. The two courses
may be taken in any order; however we recommend that individuals take the Real Estate Fundamentals first.

Both Real Estate Fundamentals and Real Estate Practice are comprehensive and
intensive courses that will prepare individuals for the state real estate exam. In
addition, both courses require individual reading and study time throughout the
course. Individuals may purchase the textbook prior to the first class to begin
 some individual reading.
