Broker's Licensing
Information
Education
1) 16 credits (240 hours of instruction) from approved
school
a) 2 credits in Real Estate Office
Management
b) 2 credits in Real Estate Law
c) At least 6 of the remaining 12
shall be in 3 or more of the
Commission- developed
courses in the following areas of study:
1) Valuation of Income-Producing Property (Appraisals)
2) Valuation of Residential Property (Appraisals)
3) Non-Residential Property Management
4) Residential Property Management
5) Real Estate Finance
6) Real Estate Investment
7) Real Estate Construction
8) Real Estate Sales
Note: a
maximum of 4 credits will be allowed for each area of study.
d) Remaining credits in elective Real Estate courses
2) Courses must be completed within 10 years prior to the date
of successful
completion of the licensing examination.
3) Exceptions - Education requirements are waived if:
a) Applicant has a Bachelor's or Master's degree with a major
in
Real Estate.
b) Applicant has a juris doctor degree
c) Applicant is a practicing attorney. Must submit
certificate of good
standing from Supreme Court in practicing
state.
Experience
1) 3 years of real estate experience as a
licenses salesperson.
2) Qualify for 200 points as described on eligibility
application.
FORM 56-SPOA 2103
3) Exceptions:
a) If not a licensed salesperson,
applicant may fulfill experience
regiment if they have 3
years experience that would be equivalent
to salesperson
license. Examples: builder, developer, attorneys,
government employees.
b) Applicant with broker's license in
another state must submit
certification of licensure
from their state's licensing authority that
indicates active licensure
within the last 5 years from submission
of eligibility application. Certification
must be issued within the past
90 days.
Steps to obtaining broker's license:
1) Fulfill required education and experience
requirements as listed above.
2) Fill out Form 56-SPOA 2103 [link]. The cost is
$40. This form is the
eligibility application for the
brokers examination.
3) The Real Estate Commission will contact you with the
approval, and
send the instructions for taking the state
exam.
4) Once you pass the state exam, PSI (testing service) will
give you the
required forms to submit to the Real Estate
Commission to obtain your
