2008 Primary Election
Tuesday, April 22

Polls open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22.

General Information:

On Tuesday, April 22, Pennsylvanians will go to the polls to select candidates to run in the General Election in November.  Some of the offices candidates are seeking include:

President of the United States
Pennsylvania Attorney General
Pennsylvania Auditor General
Pennsylvania State Treasurer
United States Congress
Pennsylvania State Senate
Pennsylvania State House of Representatives

In order to vote in the Pennsylvania Primary Election, a citizen of the Commonwealth must be registered and he/she can only vote in the primary election for the Party which he/she belongs.  For example, if you are a registered Democrat, you can only vote for Democratic candidates in the PRIMARY.  Party registration only applies to the Primary Election - in the General Election in November, a person can vote for candidates of any party.

For information on registering to vote, please visit the Department of States' Web site The deadline to register for the Primary Election in March 24.

If you will not be in your voting precinct on Primary Election Day, the deadline to apply for a civilian absentee ballot is April 15.  You can find more information on applying for an absentee ballot on the Department of States' Web site (noted above).
