"REALTORS® Working Together to Raise the Roof"

    Harrisburg REALTOR® Foundation’s
            Capital Campaign 2006

         A Habitat for Humanity Home

The Greater Harrisburg Association of REALTORS® Foundation has begun its annual Capital Campaign.  Since 1993, the Foundation has donated more than $370,000 to area charities with housing related missions, has donated thousands of turkeys and food boxes to needy families and, in 2004, built a Habitat for Humanity house.

This year we are excited about building our second Habitat for Humanity house.  This time we are partnering with Cumberland Valley Habitat for Humanity to build a house in Carlisle.  The home is located at 174 West Penn Street.  Future homeowner, Cheryl Simmons is a mother of two and full-time employee of Wendy's restaurant.  Check this website regularly for photo updates on the construction's progress.

The groundbreaking ceremony took place on
Sunday, March 19, 2006.  Numerous REALTOR
®
members were on hand to celebrate the occasion.
Kay Hock shared information
about the Foundation with
those in attendance.
Future homeowner, Cheryl Simmons,
assisted by her son,
broke ground with Habitat's
ceremonial golden shovel.
Though the foundation was
already laid for the home,
the groundbreaking kicked off
Building Blitz week, which ran
from March 20 - 25th.

Two days into the building blitz showed much progress...

As you can see,
the first floor was enclosed,
windows were in
and siding was going up.
Let's take a peek inside!

Before you know it,
this house will be a home.

Teamwork in action.
Within two weeks, the structure was "under roof."  Windows are installed and siding is up.  It will take several months to complete the interior.

Now that the building blitz is over, workdays will be Saturdays and Mondays beginning at 8:00 am and ending no later than 4:00 pm., based on when the day's work is completed. Wednesdays may also be scheduled work days if a crew can be assembled.

All of the money collected from the Capital Campaign will go toward the house.  Our Capital Campaign goal is $49,000.  The support of our members is crucial to the success of this important and beneficial community service endeavor.
